IFAD-Agrihub beneficiary wins AgriPitch competition

The trained beneficiaries of the IFAD Agrihub project have won the Agripitch competition organized by the African Project Development Centre (APDC) in Abuja. APDC, a partner of the IFAD Agrihub project organized the agripitch competition as part of post training support for the beneficiaries of the first cohort of the training.

The five finalist of at the competition who were coached and mentored by the training lead of APDC, Mr Tokunbo Laniyan won cash prizes ranging from 100,000 to 40,000 naira respectively.

The beneficiaries developed business plans on various value chains and pitched their business ideas before panel of judges which constituted experts from agribusiness firms, the banking industry, etc.

The overall winner of the competition,  Juliet Akpelu, who pitched her business idea on  the production and sales of snails  won the sum of 100,000 naira. She expressed gratitude to the organizers of the competition for giving young people the opportunity to be productively engaged in the agriculture sector.

The 1st runner up winners, a group led by Lilian Ibeh expressed their joy as they also received the sum of  60,000 naira.  ‘‘Our sincere appreciation to IFAD, IITA and APDC for exposing us to different sectors in the urban agricultural value chain and also grateful for emerging 2nd position, she said.

A total number of 36 Business Plans (6 group plans and 30 individual plans) were submitted by the beneficiaries after the training.
